What is Home Insurance?

Home Insurance covers damage to your property and belongings for various events, sometimes referred to as perils.

Home Insurance policies are available with three levels of cover:

All policies include cover for damage caused by events such as fire, theft, flood, storm damage, malicious damage, escape of water, riot, etc. Family Legal Protection cover is available on all our home policies for just £10.00 a year.

Let us now look at some of the important points to consider and levels of cover available when buying home insurance.

Home Insurance from Henderson Insurnace Great Deals Now On!

  • Sum Insured - under buildings cover this needs to represent the amount you would have to pay if your home had to be built again in the event of a total loss, for example in the event of a fire, including removal of debris and professional fees.  This is not the home’s market value. For contents cover – this would be the total value of your home contents including clothing etc.
  • Accidental Damage Cover - most policies offer a small amount of accidental damage cover free of charge, to sanitary ware, fixed glass, TV, video & audio equipment. Full Accidental Damage Cover is an optional extra to cover events such as spillages on carpets or three piece suites or putting your foot through a ceiling.
  • Family Legal Protection covers legal fees, generally up to £50,000, to pursue civil claims in the event of legal disputes, e.g. property or employment disputes.
  • Personal Possessions - also called all risks cover. This is to cover accidental loss of or damage to items away from the home such as jewellery, watches, tablets, phones, laptops etc. Money and Credit Card may also be included and most policies generally extend to include a period for worldwide cover whilst abroad.

Changes to the Highway Code – what’s changing and what does this mean?

Over 40 changes to the Highway Code, including updates to existing rules as well as the addition of new text, came into effect from 29 January*. Whilst these changes are relevant to all road users, it’s important that our commercial motor clients are aware of these changes and communicate them effectively to their drivers.

What are the key changes?

The most fundamental change of principle is the inclusion of a Hierarchy of Road Users designed to place road users in order of potential harm. The aim is to improve safety for vulnerable road users (VRUs), in particular pedestrians, cyclists, and horse riders.

The updated text states that "those in charge of vehicles that can cause the greatest harm in the event of a collision bear the greatest responsibility to take care and reduce the danger they pose to others. This principle applies most strongly to drivers of large goods and passenger vehicles, followed by vans/minibuses, cars/taxis and motorcycles.” read more
